The Welsh Government has published a White Paper proposing a new law that would require Ministers, local authorities, health boards and other public bodies to consider the needs of rural communities when developing policies and delivering services.
The proposals aim to address the challenges faced by rural Wales, where around a third of the population lives. Rural communities often experiences higher living costs, lower incomes, poorer transport links, patchy digital connectivity and unequal access to public services.
The measures are intended to improve access to services while ensuring rural communities are considered at the forefront of decision-making.
The proposals sit within a wider consultation covering climate action, sustainability, and environmental protection, including support for developing the Climate and Nature Action Plan.
The closing date for responses is 14 October 2026.
