A new report published by the Local Policy Innovation Partnership Hub and the Hesletine Institute outlines what can be learnt about growth by the devolved nations of the UK, along with the city-region mayoralties in England. The report was written by Professor Rebecca Riley from Birmingham University, a director of the Local Policy Innovation Partnership Hub. The paper argues that there needs to be a stronger local method of getting to grips with regional inequality, economic uncertainty and the need to transition to net zero.
According to the paper, there are seven essentials to ensuring place-based growth which are based on initial evidence collected from the LPIP partnerships across the UK as well as other sources. These essentials are listed as:

- Make Policy Smarter, with Local Evidence
- Fund the Mission, Not the Bid
- Lead Together, Grow Together
- Growth That Works for Everyone—and the Planet
- Spend Smart, Buy Local, Drive Innovation
- Learn Fast, Scale What Works
The aim of the paper is to inform the Labour Party’s policy on devolution and local economic regeneration, by providing recommendations that could be acted upon by the UK Government, based on what’s already work. You can read the paper in it’s entirety by following this link.
