The Welsh Government has published its outline proposals for The Sustainable Farming Scheme, the main source of future Government support for farmers in Wales.
In the Foreword, Lesley Griffiths MS, Minister for Rural Affairs, calls the proposals the ‘Welsh Way’ of farming – integrated within Welsh rural communities, in tune with the Welsh landscape and making careful use of resources.
The proposed Scheme has three distinct layers consisting of Universal outcomes, applicable to all farmers, Optional and Collaborative layers involving more complex , targeted or collaboratively delivered actions.
Farming Unions have broadly welcomed the proposals. The FUW has said that they are “on the right track” but concerns remain about the detail.
