The PATCCh Network has launched a YouTube channel focusing on the effects that climate change is having on Wales. As part of the WISERD network, the group was established due to the need for a Wales wide network following the success of Places of Climate Change (PloCC) at Bangor University.
The aim of the PATCCh Network is to explore the viewpoints of academics, researchers and industry experts about how ideas regarding climate change effect concepts of place. The intention is to bridge the gap between the social sciences and scientific fields from a place-based viewpoint. The network includes members from across Wales and beyond that specialise in the effects of climate change on Wales, its geography and people.
Recently the network has launched its YouTube channel that gives the public a chance to hear from experts in the field presenting their research on climate change and its effect of Wales. Meanwhile PloCC has also recently launched a series of videos. Their series includes a recent seminar by Dr Candice Howarth discussing public perceptions of extreme heat as a result of climate change. The presentation is based on two specific case studies. The first is a survey of public opinion that was held in August of 2023 which explored to what extent the public in the United Kingdom are aware of the effects extreme hear and if it is possible to reduce the effects of extreme heat without increasing emissions. The second study looks at the practicalities of putting in place adaptations to extreme heat as part of planning for climate change.
