Oxfam Cymru has published a discussion paper called ‘A Vision for a Just Cymru’, which includes policy proposals for parties in Wales to consider before the Senedd elections in 2026. The document was launched in an event in the Norweigian Church in Cardiff Bay on the 4th of November in the company of politicians, campaigners and various stakeholders who had gathered to form a cross-party forum in order to explore ideas regarding the future of Wales and discuss the contents of the paper.

The paper focuses on how to create a just and sustainable future in Wales, and is an attempt to work across sectors to ensure equality, wellbeing and climate justice are central principles when considering policy decisions.

In a statement Hade Turkmen, policy advisor for Oxfam Cymru said:

“This is a moment for courage and ambition. Wales has the tools, the legal framework, and the public appetite for change. What’s needed now is collective action- for people, planet, and for future generations.”

Among the priorities outlined in the document are the following action points:

  • A national anti-poverty strategy with statutory child poverty targets that tackle the root causes of inequality
  • Investment in a caring economy, with reformed and properly funded social care and childcare systems
  • A just transition to a green and caring economy that puts the wellbeing of people and the planet at its core
  • A globally responsible and peacebuilding Wales, leading by example through ethical trade, fair procurement, and global solidarity grounded in human rights
