A conference bringing together language commissioners from across the world will celebrate its tenth birthday in Cardiff on 10-11 June 2024. The International Association of Language Commissioners will be holding several events including a launch event in the Senedd on 10 June, followed by a full conference in Cardiff on 11 June.
There is a wide variety of sessions scheduled for the conference, including discussions regarding how the Welsh language standards are driving change in the workplace and beyond, and a lecture by Professor Rob Dunbar regarding recent developments in UK language policy from a council of Europe perspective.
Efa Gruffydd Jones, The Welsh Language Comissioner, is the current chair of the Association. In a statement she said:
“Over the years the opportunity to discuss and foster the role of Language Commissioners as well as sharing effective practices with other countries has been a core part of our work. The Welsh language needs to be seen in the context of a multilingual world and the Association and this conference allows us to showcase how the language is used naturally on a day to day basis.
“I am extremely proud that Wales is the home of the conference in this very special 10th anniversary year.”
