The Horticulture Action Plan 2020 for the commercial horticulture industry in Wales provides a clear roadmap and recommends actions to be built in-line with Welsh Government strategic objectives.
Lead by Tyfu Cymru and managed by Lantra, the action plan outlines how the industry can develop sustainably and support long-term commercial production for Wales. The scheme seeks to respond to the direct needs of the industry and provides leadership to equip businesses with the knowledge and practical skills for green and inclusive growth, supported by applied research and appropriate use of technology.
This work is important for the Welsh Government’s Well-being of Future Generations Act and Environment Act 2016, which targets creating a greener food supply chain and sustainable ways to revitalize the economy of rural Wales. The changing agricultural and food regulations following Brexit means Wales will need a robust commercial horticulture scheme that creates an opportunity for Wales to develop a more self-sustaining supply chain.
