The organisers of Gwobrau Mwyaf Cymraeg yn y Byd or the ‘Welshest Awards in the World’ have announced that the awards will return later this year, with nominations now open for businesses in the ARFOR area. The aim of the awards is to celebrate the ‘Welshest’ in the area by rewarding those businesses that promote the language be that as an essential part of their day to day work, by innovating while using the language, or by working to increase the visibility of Welsh in the world of business.
There are extra categories to those seen in the 2024 awards, the last time they were held, including awards for the ‘Welshest Social Enterprise in the World’ and the ‘Welshest taxis in the world. An awards ceremony will be held in the spring to celebrate the efforts of the winners.
The awards include the following categories:
- Cyfryngau Cymdeithasol Mwyaf Cymraeg y Byd – an award that celebrates the use of Welsh on the web.
- Ieuenctid Mwyaf Cymraeg y Byd – am award that celebrates the young people that have received support through the ARFOR scheme.
- Gofod Mwyaf Cymraeg y Byd – an award for those spaces where Welsh is an innate part of every day life be it a pub, café, shop, theatre or any other space.
- Cynnyrch Mwyaf Cymraeg y Byd – an award for those businesses that sell products of all kinds.
- Busnes Mwyaf Cymraeg y Byd — an award for businesses where Welsh is an essential part of their work and ways of operating.
- Menter Gymdeithasol Mwyaf Cymraeg y Byd — an award for a social enterprises that both use and celebrate the language.
- Tacsis Mwyaf Cymraeg y Byd – an award celebrating the key role taxis play in ARFOR’s economy by connecting businesses and rural communities.
The organisers are keen to hear from you if you run or know about a business or enterprise within the ARFOR area that is succeeding while using Welsh and makes a contribution to the language in the region. Once the organisers receive all the nominations, a panel will choose a short list for each category, before opening the competition to a vote for the public to decide.
