Eryri National Park has made a call for potential sites for local developments, as well as potential sites to be protected from development as part of the latest review of the Eryri Local Development Plan. The Park is looking for sites that could be potential locations for housing developments, affordable housing, employment creation, community facilities, retail sites, open spaces and other land uses.
The Local Development Plan informs decisions about developments within the Eryri Local Planning authority Area. The plan is reviewed to ensure that it remains relevant and addresses current local needs. The New Local Development Plan will be effective from 2026 until 2041.
It is a statutory requirement on Local Planning Authorities to follow a series of steps while planning any plan of this kind, with the call for potential sites one of the first steps in this process. Submitting a site does not necessarily mean that the site will be included within the Local Development Plan. A process of assessing sites will happen once all submissions are received with a number of considerations such as planning policy, environmental designations, viability and infrastructure measured as part of this work.
In a statement Elliw Owen, the Eryri National Park Authority’s Head of Planning Policy said:
“The submission of candidate sites for consideration during this stage of preparing the Local Development Plan is key if we are to deliver a plan that meets the current needs of our communities. We are keen to receive candidate site submissions within the Eryri National Park boundary for consideration by landowners, members of the public, representatives of community groups and housing developers.”
