A national call has opened for communities across the UK to submit their treasured traditions, crafts and cultural practices to a new inventory of living heritage. The aim is to celebrate and safeguard customs, from Eisteddfodau and Welsh love spoons to dry-stone walling, steel-drumming.
Latest research shows heritage plays a significant role in local and national economies, contributing billions annually through tourism, cultural activity, skills and place-based identity.
What’s happening?
- Communities can now submit traditions they value under seven themes including performing arts, crafts, nature, culinary practices and social customs.
- Submissions are open for four months, with the first version of the inventory expected next summer.
