The Welsh Government has announced the development of a National Food Strategy for Wales, aimed at creating a more joined-up approach to the entire food system, from agricultural production and processing through to retail, public procurement, health and education.
The strategy, one of the Welsh Government’s first 100-day commitments, will examine how food policies can better support producers, strengthen the Welsh food economy, retain more value in Wales, and promote healthy eating and food literacy.
The Welsh Government has appointed Simon Wright to chair a new Expert Working Group, and the final strategy is expected to be presented to ministers in 2027.
Wright is an expert on food and food systems and has over 30 years’ experience in the Welsh hospitality sector. He is the owner of Wright’s Food Emporium in Llanarthne and, will lead conversations with producers, businesses and communities across Wales.
