Yesterday (23 October 2024) in the Pierhead Building, a strategy paper was formally launched by Cefin Campbell MS. ‘Towards a strategy to tackle rural poverty in Wales’ outlines the challenges that are faced in the Welsh countryside, providing policy proposals that aim to get to grips with the situation.
As part of the event, joining Cefin Campbell on the panel were Sam Kurtz MS, Bethan Webber from Cwmpas and Mared Rand Jones from Young Farmers Clubs Wales to discuss rural poverty and to share some of their reactions to the contents of the report. There was a wide ranging and interesting discussion where each member of the panel outlined their priorities when thinking about rural Wales, with each emphasising different aspects that require attention.
The report focuses on particular policy areas over which the Welsh Government have influence such as transport, housing, energy, childcare, as well as elements such as digital, business, employment and the rural economy.
