A new article of the Farming Connect website takes a look at the use of dried manure as bedding material for dairy cows. In the article, Dr Natalie Meades from Aberystwyth University’s IBERS, outlines some of the key advantages of using recycled manure solids as bedding material for milking cows. According to Dr Meades, it can be a good material because it does not contain too much dust and can help comfort livestock, yet there do exist some limitations to its use such as challenges with ensuring a steady supply and its potential effects on animal health in certain circumstances.

The blog discusses how the recycling process works, how the use of recycled manure solids is regulated in the UK and Wales and some of the advantages and disadvantages of this method of recycling manure. To read the blog in full, follow this link to Farming Connect’s website.
