The Welsh Council for Voluntary Action have announced that the next round of the Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme is open for applications. The aim of the scheme is to fund projects that improve biodiversity, reduce waste on landfill sites and broader environmental improvements. The main grants run from £5,000 to £49,000 with those wishing to apply able to make an application for projects of national significance of between £50,000 and £250,000.
Potential applicants can verify if they are eligible for the scheme on the WCVA’s website, where they can also check a digital map prepared by the body to help them ensure they are within 5 miles of an eligible waste site. Previously funded projects include Tiny Forest Caerphilly, that is run by Climate Action Caerphilly. This is a volunteer led project that started with a group of residents that were worried about climate change coming together in 2020. As a result of the funding they have been able to plant 600 trees and create a ‘tiny forest’ in Morgan James Park in Caerphilly.
According to WCVA the process is a very competitive one, with a high number of applications received, but you can get guidance while making an application by contacting your local County Voluntary Council.
